Pastor Andrew grew up on a small farm in Navarre, Ohio with his parents and sister. He played football through high school and college. Attending the College of Wooster, he majored in Computer Science with minors in Mathematics and Religious Studies. After an internship with the JM Smucker Company in their IT department, he discovered his passions were really in the field of Religious Studies. From there, he went to Eden Theological Seminary where he met his wife—Pastor Sarah—and received his Master of Divinity. With Pastor Sarah’s family on the east coast, Pastor Andrew’s first church was in Monroe, Connecticut serving as the Associate Pastor for Faith Formation. While in Connecticut, he continued his studies with a certificate in Youth & Theology and was selected as an Engle Preaching Fellow at Princeton Theological Seminary. He also started in the Next Generation Leadership Initiative with the Pension Boards of the UCC. Returning to Ohio, Pastor Andrew was called as the Senior Pastor of Bethany United Church of Christ, before coming to FCC Twinsburg as the Designated Pastor. He was also recently commissioned as a Chaplain in the Army National Guard. His passions include studying Christian Spiritual Traditions, the Emerging Church, narrative leadership, strategic planning, and preaching. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, traveling, tinkering with technology, going to the movies, and gardening. Pastor Andrew looks forward to hearing your story and helping the church take its next faithful step in its story.
Pastor Sarah was born in Whitman, Massachusetts. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Biblical Studies from Gordon College in Wenham, Mass, in 2006 and then began working at Hanscom Air Force Base as a Lead Procurement Specialist. Upon hearing her call to ordained ministry, she moved to Webster Groves, Missouri and earned a Master of Divinity from Eden Theological Seminary in 2010. It was here that she met her husband, Rev. Andrew Courtney. During seminary, Pastor Sarah also completed Clinical Pastoral Education Training at John Cochran VA Hospital in St. Louis, MO., and attended St. Louis University Summer Geriatrics Institute. Her first call was to the First Congregational Church of South Windsor, CT as their sole pastor. Upon moving to OH, she became the Associate Minister of the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge. She loves creative worship, working with children of all ages to help them engage in their faith through programs in and outside the classroom, making prayer stations, and help all people to know God’s unconditional love for them. She is so excited to grow in the faith with you as we seek God’s calling for us. In her free time, she enjoys tea parties, scrap-booking/crafting, board games, day trips, traveling, hiking and going on dates with her husband. She is looking forward to making memories with you as we journey together in our faith.
